Our Kinleap Approach
Kinleap’s work is guided by a simple philosophy:
Kind. Clever. Together.
We specialise in early intervention and supporting children with complex developmental needs, using an approach grounded in neurodevelopmental principles and powered by play. Therapy sessions are kind, calm, and engaging, helping children feel safe, supported, and confident to explore new skills.
Our paediatric OT sessions are play-based, movement-focused, and purposeful, using engaging activities that are fun for children and meaningful for their developing brains. Through movement and play, we support the development of new neural pathways while children are busy just being kids.
At the heart of our work is connection. We take the time to build trust with each child and work together with families, educators, and other professionals to create consistency across home, school, and therapy environments. Collaboration is key to building clarity, momentum, and real-world progress.
By meeting children exactly where they are, our approach focuses on building confidence, capability, and connection, ensuring therapy translates into practical skills that support everyday life; not just progress within the clinic.

FAQS
-
Occupational Therapy (OT) aims to help people to live life enjoyably. OT's work with you to identify areas of challenge and create a plan to make life easier.
For young children, this could mean assessing if they have met their developmental milestones and providing them with opportunity to build foundational skills in a fun and motivating way.
Developing skills can lead to children who are confidently able to engage in everyday activities such as toileting, dressing, socialising and learning.
Let's step together to make big LEAPs.

OT may benefit your child if they are experiencing delays or difficulty in these areas:
Reaching developmental milestones such as sitting, crawling or walking
Developing cognitive skills such as attention, emotional regulation or memory
Learning at an age appropriate level
Developing age appropriate play and social skills
Have a congenital condition that affects their physical or cognitive function

Your Kinleap OT will complete a thorough assessment to identify underlying causes for emotional outbursts and if OT support is indicated, you will be provided with individualised strategies and interventions to support your family to manage emotional outbursts holistically.
-
During your initial assessment your Kinleap OT will:
Chat with you about your child’s strengths and challenges
Spend time building rapport with your child prior to beginning assessment to ensure your child feels safe and comfortable. This can look different for each child and their unique needs
Complete formal &/ informal assessments. Your OT will clinically assess the information provided in your intake form and prepare the assessment/s which are the best fit for your child
Finish the session with a fun activity to support future engagement
Initial assessments are typically able to be completed over 1-2 sessions. This is dependent on your child’s age (attention, regulation and response to rapport building) and their complexity of needs. Your Kinleap OT will work with you to create a flexible assessment plan to best suit you child and family.
All assessments are followed with a parent consultation to chat about the assessment outcomes and ongoing recommendations, if OT is recommended, goal setting will also be completed during this session.

Paediatric OT’s use play to target specific skills. Children naturally engage best in activities they enjoy, making play an important part of paediatric therapy.
